No More Homeschool

We have homeschooled the last 2 years and it has been wonderful. It was what my son needed at the time. He is smart/advanced/whatever the PC term is…..and although his teacher and school were wonderful in pushing him with extra work it just wasn’t right for him at that time. They were giving him a grade level higher work…..but then what will he do the next year. We thought about having him skip a grade but decided against that.

So the first year I just homeschooled my son and did a little work with my daughter. Then last year I taught them both…my son 5th and daughter K/1st. We started out with K but it was too easy for her so we moved to some 1st grade work in a few subjects.

My son came to me a few months ago saying he wanted to go back. I was a little surprised but in all honestly I was totally ok with it. While I have loved teaching him (and her) the timing seemed right for him to go back. He will be starting middle school (say what???) and I think is really wanting that everyday interaction and a core group of friends.

Both kids are well socialized….climbing classes, boy scouts, girl scouts, dance, soccer, gymnastics…. So while they have lots of friends, they don’t see them all on an everyday basis. For me, that was one of the best parts of school….that core group of best friends.

We decided we wanted to send them to private school this time and did our research, friend recommendations, toured the schools we liked the best….and then walked into ‘the one’. You know when you walk into a place….whether it’s a new home, new church, new school….and just know. We knew.

I did the inital online application, then submitted all the paperwork they needed last week. We went this morning for the interview….not expecting her to tell us today that they got in…but she did. Kids are excited, we are excited.

Not sure how I’ll feel once school starts. They have been home with me almost all the time (except for activities) for over 2 years now so it will be strange being by myself for almost 7 hours a day. But I’m excited to see what that brings for the blog and shop. Being able to set aside ‘working’ hours during the day while there at school will be nice. Looking forward to growing this new blog and adding more items to the shop.

It broke my heart when my oldest decided he wanted to go to public school a few years ago. This year both of my children will be in school too so I’ll be in the same boat as you. But I’m looking forward to focusing more on growing my work from home jobs ๐Ÿ™‚

I wasn’t as sad as I thought I’d be. But as we get closer to school starting (2 weeks from today) I am getting more sad. But looking forward to more structure with our days and seeing them grow in a new environment.

Got a lot of plans with the blog and shop so it will be nice to have dedicated time to give to it. ๐Ÿ™‚ Since we’ve homeschooled the past 2 years they’ve been with me almost all the time. The quiet will take a while to get used to, lol.
